The Africa Tech Summit returns to the London Stock Exchange on May 29, 2026. Now in its 10th year, the event brings together 350 investors and founders to address the current requirements of African tech, specifically fintech, AI, and digital infrastructure.
While the 2016 debut focused on securing basic seed funding, the current market is defined by consolidation and sophisticated financing. According to the Partech Africa Tech Venture Capital Report, startups on the continent raised $4.1 billion in 2025. Notably, debt financing reached a record $1.6 billion, accounting for 41% of all capital deployed. This preference for non-dilutive capital suggests a maturing environment where founders prioritize ownership and long-term stability over rapid equity burns.
Andrew Fassnidge, the summit's founder, noted that the industry is navigating market volatility by focusing on exits and IPOs. This is reflected in the 2025 data, which saw a 72% surge in mergers and acquisitions (M&A). Strategic deals, such as Moniepoint’s 78% stake in Sumac Microfinance Bank and the $100 million merger between hearX and Eargo, indicate that the growth at all costs era has been replaced by vertical integration and regulatory-led expansion.
A central component of the summit is the Investment Showcase. Startups in the Web3, payments, and climate tech sectors have until April 22 to apply for the program. These sessions are designed to facilitate the strategic partnerships necessary for late-stage growth, particularly as South Africa and Kenya continue to lead in equity and debt concentration respectively.
The 2026 agenda includes masterclasses on the technicalities of cross-border trade and the physical infrastructure needed to support regional expansion. The primary objective remains sustaining the $4 billion investment momentum while navigating the global economic pressures that continue to reshape emerging markets.
