Bolt Marks 10 Years in Kenya with KSh19 Billion Investment

Bolt has invested more than KSh19 billion in Kenya since launching its operations in the country in 2016, as they mark a decade in the Kenyan market.

Over the past 10 years, Bolt has connected more than 8 million riders and created income opportunities for over 170,000 drivers and couriers. The company has also expanded its operations to 19 towns across six regions, covering Nairobi, the Coast, Western Kenya, Central Kenya, the North Rift and the Mt Kenya region.

“Kenya is not a market we entered lightly, and after ten years, it is certainly not one we take for granted,” said Dimmy Kanyankole, Bolt’s Senior General Manager for Rides in East Africa.

Kanyankole said Bolt will continue investing in Kenya and expanding opportunities for drivers, businesses and communities as it enters its next decade in the country. The company’s investment has supported its technology infrastructure, driver support programmes, safety initiatives and expansion across the country.

The milestone comes as gig work continues to grow in Kenya. The 2026 Bolt Kenya and Ipsos Gig Economy Report estimates that the country’s gig economy supports about 1.5 million workers and generates more than KSh130 billion annually.

The report also found that 98% of ride-hailing participants surveyed reported an improvement in their standard of living since joining a platform, with 54% describing the improvement as significant.
