Connected Africa Summit 2026 to Bring Together Policymakers, Innovators, and Tech Leaders in Nairobi

Nairobi’s Edge Convention Centre is currently hosting the Connected Africa Summit 2026 from April 27th to 30th. The event is organized by the ICT Authority under the theme “Uniting Africa’s Innovation for an Inclusive Digital Market.”

A primary outcome of this session is the launch of the Connected Africa Secretariat. Led by Kenya, this body acts as the permanent coordination engine for the continent, ensuring that cross-border regulations and infrastructure projects don't stall between annual meetings.

Technical Priorities and Sovereign Data

The 2026 agenda focus on how Africa can own its tech stack. Key technical pillars include:

• Localized AI Models: A heavy push for LLMs trained on African languages and local datasets to ensure cultural relevance and data sovereignty.
• Unified Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI): Establishing interoperable digital ID systems and data exchange platforms to support the AfCFTA Digital Trade Protocol.
• Frontier Climate Tech: Integrating blockchain for carbon credit tracking and satellite-based AI for disaster mitigation.
• Continental Cybersecurity: Building a shared trust space to secure financial transactions and government data across borders.

Bridging the Rural Gap

Policymakers are currently debating hybrid infrastructure models that combine satellite broadband with smart grids to move the digital economy beyond Nairobi and other major hubs to reach rural populations.

The event has drawn high-level delegations from Uganda, Ethiopia, Malawi, Gabon, and Zimbabwe, alongside industry giants like Safaricom and Huawei. These stakeholders are focusing on public-private partnerships that can scale local pilots into continental solutions.
