The Nairobi Securities Exchange signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tether on July 28, 2026, marking a clear step toward integrating digital assets and blockchain infrastructure into Kenya's capital markets.
Under the agreement, both organizations will launch an investor education program alongside broker workshops. These sessions aim to broaden understanding of distributed ledger technology across local trading firms.
Beyond financial literacy, the partnership examines potential use cases for Tether's Hadron platform. Among them are fractional share ownership for domestic and diaspora investors and atomic settlement mechanisms that could shorten standard clearing times.
According to the announcement, early discussions also touch on automated identity verification and anti-money laundering workflows tailored to Kenya's regulatory requirements. Using USDT as a liquidity or settlement layer remains strictly subject to approval from the Capital Markets Authority and coordination with the Central Bank.
As an exploratory agreement, the memorandum does not establish a production timeline or commit either party to deployment.
