True regional utility demands systems built around domestic realities rather than Western defaults. Local platforms do not benefit from engineers who merely know how to feed prompts to algorithms trained on Silicon Valley data sets. Real economic value springs from models optimized directly for Swahili, regional Sheng dialects, and localized consumer trends. Gathering that representative data requires deep computing capital and tight regulatory oversight.
Kenya’s underfunded Data Protection Office already faces severe enforcement backlogs, meaning an influx of global tech infrastructure will inevitably spark massive legal disputes.
