So PawaPay earned a spot on CNBC's World's Top Fintech Companies 2026 list. Global recognition has officially caught up with the rapid acceleration of African mobile money. That's one of the most coveted recognitions in fintech, with the list compiled by CNBC and research firm Statista. Out of more than 3,500 candidates evaluated worldwide, the pan-African platform secured its place among the top 500 performers based on scalability, innovation, and technical impact.
This arrives alongside massive operational momentum for the enterprise. PawaPay recently crossed three billion successful mobile money transactions, clearing its most recent billion in under nine months. Daily transaction volumes nearly doubled over that same stretch, surging from 2.4 million to five million requests. By linking merchants to roughly 50 mobile operators across 20 African markets via a single API, the company now offers direct access to more than one billion wallets. Total processed volume on the network has officially surpassed 10 billion euros.
Navigating disparate payment systems across borders used to be a daunting task for growing enterprises. Expanding into new territories frequently forced companies to build custom software and manage separate banking relationships in every individual market. PawaPay eliminates that operational burden by handling settlement flows and regulatory clearance under one roof. In fact, the team has been using stablecoins inside treasury operations since 2022 to minimize FX delays and keep multi-currency settlements predictable.
Reflecting on the milestone, CEO Nikolai Barnwell pointed out that international decision-makers frequently underestimate the sheer scale of the continent's payment rails. The numbers back him up. With mobile wallets moving over 1.4 trillion dollars last year alone, foreign companies expanding across Africa can no longer count on card payments to carry the load. For global merchants, plugging into a unified layer like PawaPay is fast becoming a basic operational requirement.
