The event, organized by the Web3 Ethiopia community, marked the tour’s last campus stop and underscored a growing push to embed decentralized technology curricula in African higher‑education institutions.
The tour, powered by Base East Africa (@BasedEastAfrica), visited five major campuses: Addis Ababa University (AAU), Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU), HiLCoE (also referred to as HILCOE or Hilcoe), Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU), and American College of Technology (ACT).

Throughout the tour, sessions covered topics such as Web3 fundamentals, onchain infrastructure, wallets, smart contracts, and practical building opportunities. The initiative aimed to onboard Ethiopian students into the Web3 ecosystem with clarity and purpose, fostering skills for future tech careers and entrepreneurship.
This educational push aligns with Ethiopia's broader digital transformation efforts under initiatives like Digital Ethiopia 2030, which emphasizes expanding digital infrastructure and opportunities. While cryptocurrency transactions remain prohibited under National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) regulations—with the Ethiopian Birr as the sole legal tender—the NBE has indicated it is monitoring global trends in digital assets and may issue clearer guidelines in the future. Blockchain technology itself continues to gain traction for non-payment uses, such as potential applications in supply chains, agriculture, and other sectors.

The successful wrap‑up of the university tour highlights a momentum shift in Ethiopia’s tech education landscape, where blockchain and Web3 are moving from niche topics to core components of future‑ready curricula.
